What is Next Step Adult?
Next Step Adult is a program at The Hope Center for Autism designed for young adults with autism who have finished high school but still need support building skills for independence, relationships, and community life.
What do participants do?
Next Step Adult focuses on real-life skills in a supportive, structured environment. Participants:
Build social skills and friendships
Practice communication and self-advocacy
Learn life skills like decision-making, hygiene, and responsibility
Participate in community outings and activities
Explore job skills and interests
The program is designed to help individuals feel more confident and connected as they move into adulthood.
What does a typical day look like?
Participants meet weekly (currently Wednesdays from 3:30–6:00) and:
Spend time socializing with peers
Participate in group activities or planning events
Practice real-world skills in a fun and supportive way
Often share a meal together (usually pizza around 5:00)
The group is supported by staff, but also encourages participants to take leadership roles and help guide activities.
Who is it for?
Next Step Adult is a good fit for individuals who:
Are adults with autism
Can manage most personal care needs independently
Want to build friendships and social confidence
May need support navigating community and life skills
Cost
There is a suggested donation of $10 per week, but no one is ever turned away for inability to pay.
